Socks material know how much

The raw material of socks is nothing more than a variety of fibers. The common fiber of socks is cotton, combed cotton, mercerized cotton, spandex, lycra, nylon, acrylic, polypropylene, polyester, viscose, tencel, bamboo fiber, Modal, hemp, POMA cotton.  But the nature of each fiber, and the proportion of the combination to give the most comfortable foot feel can be very complex, understanding them can help you choose the right socks.

【 material - Cotton socks | Cotton 】

Usually we prefer to wear pure cotton socks, but does pure cotton mean 100% cotton?

In fact, there is no 100% cotton socks, if the composition of a pair of socks is 100% cotton, then this pair of socks is completely not elastic, the sock mouth to be woven very wide to set in, you can imagine how this pair of socks is not heel.  100% cotton socks shrinkage rate is particularly high, not strong, not durable.  100% cotton socks are not called cotton socks, they are called cotton.  Usually, containing more than 75% of the cotton socks can be called "cotton socks", the general cotton content in 85% socks is very high-grade cotton socks.  Other functional fibers need to be added to maintain the elasticity, strength and comfort of the socks.  Polyester, spandex and nylon are very common functional fibers.

【 material - combed cotton socks | CombedCotton 】

Combed cotton is the long, neat cotton fibers left behind by a machine called a comber that removes the shorter fibers from ordinary cotton fibers.  Due to the removal of short cotton fibers and other fibrous impurities, combed cotton produces a finer yarn and the finished product feels smoother and more comfortable.

【 material - mercerized cotton socks | MercerizedCotton 】

Mercerized cotton is the common cotton fiber after the mercerization process in the concentrated alkali solution.  This kind of cotton fiber has a better gloss than ordinary cotton fiber (more shiny, as if it has silky elements), a smoother feel, and is less prone to wrinkling, without changing other physical properties.  Usually in the summer of the thin socks often can be seen in the mercerized cotton material.

The sock material - Spandex | Spandex]

Spandex is commonly known as elastic fiber, with high elasticity and strong scalability, its stretch length can reach 5-7 times of the original fiber, the textile products added with spandex can always maintain the original outline.  The ingredients of socks must contain spandex to make the socks elastic and retractable, easy to wear, but also make the socks can be more stick to the feet, like a swimsuit can be tightly wrapped in the feet, not slip.

The sock material - leica | LYCRA 】

What is now known as Lycra is actually a spandex fiber, but it was registered as a trademark by the American company DuPont.  Just like the apples we eat daily, "Red Fuji" is an apple, "Guoguang" is an apple, "Yellow Marshal" is also an apple, are a name of the apple.  The same goes for Lycra.  In 1958, the American DuPont company invented and produced a unique artificial elastic fiber, it can be mixed with a variety of artificial and natural fibers, processing into a variety of types of clothing, its extraordinary stretch and recovery performance to make all fabrics greatly enhance color.  DuPont specially registered a name for it, Lycra, which translates into Lycra, also known as the pull rack.  Like nylon in those days, it also belongs to DuPont's invention, and registered its own trademark.

The sock material, nylon | Jinlun/Polyamide 】

Polyamide is the name of a synthetic fiber with Chinese characteristics. The first one to synthesize this fiber in China was Jinzhou Chemical Fiber Factory, so it was named "Polyamide".  The nature of nylon and nylon is similar, strong and wear-resistant, synthetic fiber is the most wear-resistant, the strongest of a kind.  Very light weight, good elasticity, in the socks to add nylon can maintain high strength of elasticity.

The sock material - Nylon | Nylon.

Nylon is American scientists (Carothers) and under the leadership of a scientific research team developed, is the world's first synthetic fiber.  The appearance of nylon makes the textile look completely new, its synthesis is a major breakthrough in the synthetic fiber industry, but also an important milestone in polymer chemistry.

The sock material - Acrylic | Acrylic.

Acrylic fiber is the name of polyacrylonitrile in China. It is soft, light and warm. It has the name of "artificial wool".  It weighs more than 10 percent less than wool, but is more than twice as strong.  Acrylon is mildew-proof and moth-proof, and is twice as resistant to sunlight as wool and 10 times more resistant than cotton.  Back in the 1970s and 1980s, what southern women referred to as "bulky wool" was acrylic.  Wool made of acrylic was very light and soft, so it was very popular at that time.  However, acrylic fabric has a very big disadvantage that it is easy to pilling and has poor wear resistance. The purpose of adding acrylic fiber into the fabric is to enjoy its light, soft and warm characteristics.

The sock material - Polypropylene | Polypropylene 】

Polypropylene fiber is the name with Chinese characteristics, actually should be called polypropylene fiber.  Because there is a C word in the name, plus the past are called XX fiber, so it is known as the polypropylene fiber.  The biggest advantage of polypropylene is light texture, but its own hygroscopicity is very weak, almost no hygroscopicity, so the moisture regain is close to zero.  But its core is strong enough to carry water vapor through the fibers in the fabric, which means socks with polypropylene are very sweaty.  And because the strength of polypropylene fiber is very high, wear resistance and tensile resistance, so in sports socks will often see the composition of polypropylene fiber.

The sock material - Polyester | Polyester 】

People often refer to the word Polyester as an ingredient, which translates as Polyester.  In China, it is called "dacron".

In 1941, J.R. Wingfield and J.T. Dixon in the United Kingdom first successfully developed polyester fiber in the laboratory using terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol as raw materials, which was named Terylene.  In 1953, the American company DuPont produced a polyester fiber known as Dacron.  In the 1970s, what the Chinese called "dacron" was actually dacron.  Dacron has low moisture content, poor air permeability, poor dyeing, easy pilling and fouling, so now it is almost impossible to see the existence of Dacron shirts.

The sock material - viscose | ViscoseRayon 】

It's also a very common fiber component, and you can see it on the ingredient label of some clothing, which is often abbreviated as Rayon, which is actually Rayon.  Businessmen's expression is often not quite consistent, rayon, ice silk, etc., all refers to the same kind of thing.  Do not think that viscose is not a natural product, in fact, viscose fiber is a kind of cotton or other natural fiber as raw material for the production of fiber.  Characterized by soft and elegant, the addition of viscose in the textile can make the hand feel more smooth, and make the fabric full of luster.  Because viscose is produced from natural fibers as raw materials, therefore, different natural fibers produced by the viscose name and properties are not the same.

The sock material, Tencel | Tencel 】

"Tencel," which was popular a few years ago, is actually a kind of viscose fiber, and in the same way that Lycra itself is a trademark of spandex, Tencel is actually a trademark.  It is the trade name of Lyocell fibre produced by Aocdis in the United Kingdom, and in our country, it is registered as "Tencel".  Tencel is a new cellulose fiber produced by solvent spinning from wood pulp of coniferous trees.  Its comfort can be comparable to cotton, good toughness, and has a silk-like touch and gloss, good drape sense, therefore, many knitted clothes like to use Tencel as raw material.  Tencel, when wet, is the first cellulose fiber that is far stronger than cotton in wet strength.  Because Tencel adopts 100% natural materials and environmentally friendly manufacturing process, it fully meets the needs of modern consumers and is known as the "green fiber of the 21st century".

【 material, bamboo fiber socks | BambooFibre 】

Bamboo fiber which is popular in recent years is also a kind of viscose fiber.  The raw material of bamboo fiber comes from bamboo. Since bamboo is much faster than wood in regeneration, it is more environmentally friendly in this modern society of industrial mass production.  Bamboo fiber fabric also has the characteristics of soft and elegant, comfortable feel, and wear-resistant, no ball, moisture absorption, fast drying, breathable.  Its is different from the place such as cotton, wood viscose fiber still depends on it to have very good antimicrobial performance and health care effect.  Bamboo fiber contains a named "bamboo kun" antimicrobial substances, with natural antimicrobial, anti-mite, anti-odor drug characteristics, in addition, bamboo fiber UV penetration rate of 0.6%, is 41.6 times of cotton, is very good anti-UV fabric raw materials.  "Antioxidant compounds in bamboo can effectively scavenge free radicals in the body, which has a biological effect against aging;  Contain a variety of essential amino acids, and bamboo cellulose, bamboo dense, pectin has the effect of moisturizing the skin and anti-fatigue;  Can increase the human microcirculation blood flow, activate tissue cells, so that the human body has warm effect, can effectively regulate the nervous system, dredge channels and collaterals to improve the quality of sleep.  These health benefits are justified, but generally speaking, the health benefits of a textile are negligible.  However, this does not prevent us from choosing bamboo fiber products to experience, especially bamboo fiber socks.  Summer foot environment is usually hot and humid, and bamboo fiber socks good air permeability, antibacterial and other properties make it become the first choice of summer socks.

The sock material - Modal/Modal | Modal.

This is a very popular textile fiber in recent years, belongs to the viscose class.  Developed by the Austrian company Lenzing, the European beech wood is made by beating and spinning. It is 100% natural and can decompose naturally, which is harmless to the environment and human body.  The finished fabric made from the blend of muldel fiber, cotton and polyester has silk-like luster, good draping, soft and smooth feel.  The manufacturer is used to make home service for more.  The addition of wooden dale in the composition of socks can make the overall feel more soft and comfortable, and it is also a very popular textile.

The socks material - hemp | Linen 】

Hemp clothing has become so popular in the market this year that it has almost become a substitute for cotton and silk.  At present, the most common raw materials used in the linen garments in the Chinese market are flax and ramie.  These two are extracted from flax and ramie plants, is a very important textile fiber, and cotton, wool, silk and known as the four major textile raw materials.  The hemp fiber is soft and strong, and the hemp fabric with high count and density is lustrous, resistant to wear and good heat dissipation, so it is very suitable for wearing hemp clothing in summer.

The sock material - pima cotton/pima cotton/cotton puma | PimaCotton 】

Pima cotton is a kind of extra-long staple cotton produced in the west and southwest of the United States (mainly in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas). It is one of the four high-quality cotton in the world, along with ELS (Extra-Longstaple) from Egypt, Pima cotton from Peru and Island cotton.

Pima cotton is characterized by its elongation, strength, dyeability, and low yield, which makes it much more expensive than ordinary cotton.
